Rọtt|wei|ler, der; -s, - [nach der baden-württembergischen Stadt Rottweil]:
(als Schutz- u. Wachhund geeigneter) kräftig gebauter, mittelgroßer Hund mit breitem Kopf, kurzer Schnauze u. kleinen Hängeohren, Stummel- od. kupiertem Schwanz u. kurzhaarigem schwarzem Fell mit rötlich braunen Partien.

deutsche Haushunderasse mit derbem, straff anliegendem schwarzem Haar und rotbraunen Abzeichen an Backen, Maul, Halsunterseite, Beinen; Schutz- und Gebrauchshund. Widerristhöhe: 55-68 cm. Der Rottweiler ist vom Grundcharakter her gutmütig, verlangt bei der Ausbildung aber eine feste Hand, da er sonst sehr schnell versucht, die Führung zu übernehmen. Er greift meist ohne Vorwarnung an und beißt hart.
